Poetry Out Loud & Youth Poetry Outreach
One of my main goals as laureate is to offer poetry instruction to as many young poets as possible throughout the county.
To this end I worked with Poetry Out Loud, an organization that puts on a national level poetry recitation contest, throughout the month of January to offer one-on-one coaching to a number of contestants from within Santa Clara County.
Learn more about poetry out loud at http://www.poetryoutloud.org/
I have also continued work through my ongoing partnership with FutureArtsNow, a non-profit organization connecting youth and teaching artists. From January to February of 2015, I conducted a series of 6 workshops at Clyde L. Fisher Middle School for over 50 students.
Learn more about Future Arts Now at http://www.futureartsnow.org/
I am also offering a series of 10 workshops in a small group setting at KIPP Heartwood Middle School from February to April 2015. My hope is that I can bring some of the talent I find together for a youth poetry reading during the summer of 2015. Stay tuned for updates in a later post.
This is really fantastic and amazing! And you’ll be at De Anza as well!
All good stuff, David. Looking for the upcoming months…
Enjoyed the 3 Laureates last night. Really want a copy of David’s piece about the computer and cannot locate it on line and it was not in the book. Love the book. Brought it home. Just want to add the computer/chess piece. Give me guidance.
Thanks Lisa (Lady who brought you a piece from your work at SJMA) >
Thanks, Lisa
The computer poem “Deep Blue” is in my solo collection entitled “Love in a Time of Robot Apocalypse.” You can purchase it on line here: http://www.powells.com/biblio/9781935904243?&PID=36873
